My concentration shows the huge role hair plays in the lives of women. Throughout time it has defined sexuality, the role we play in society and the perceptions of what women are capable of. What inspired me is the constant grooming my sisters and I went through as kids. When my mother and grandmother went to work every night they would have their hair wrapped up in some way. Different hair styles are acceptable in different conditions.

"Escape"- This piece exhibits how I see things in my head when I'm lost. I've used  pastels to create the spotty galaxy as if if it's consuming her. This symbolizes peoples' opinions  of what is happening in to their lives.

"Dark Child"- Fearlessness is represented by the red in her shirt. Accomplishment is represented by the gold and silver strands In her hair. The light in her eyes show that she is lively and never ending. I used acrylic paint for the whole piece and it was a piece that overtook my mind and I had to create and get out my system. I painted her section by section. Eyes, nose, cheeks, hair, chin, then neck, and shirt.

"Hair study"- The purpose of this artwork is to draw attention to all hair types and textures. To make the viewer's mind remember people they know with red hair, blue hair, bone straight hair, and curly nautical hair of thick coarse Afros; and what role that person plays in their life. Whether it's as a daughter that they love with all of their heart, a friend who works all of the time, or a wife who defied stereotypes.

"19th amendment"- This piece compares and contrasts a house wife in the roaring 20's and Feminist protesters referred to as Gibson girls. What they are faced with everyday and how they choose to live their life could make a difference.
